2,000 people RSVP'd to our next coffee shop event
what we did this time, how that happened, and what we learned
AM.RADIO 003 went live Tuesday to our music club only. 42 minutes later- every last RSVP was taken. Here’s how we did it:
Well… AM.RADIO is blowing up
Last post I talked about how 1,000 people came to our second ever AM.RADIO coffee shop event. This happened from a viral video I posted where 5 million people (across TikTok and Instagram) saw me break down what AM.RADIO was and why we were doing it. I remember overnight we got 1700 new RSVP’s to the party. I was mind blown.
This time? We got 2,000 in 42 minutes... No viral video this time. Let me break down the process:
First, I posted the flyer for AM.R 003 in the music club on Tuesday night ⬇️
No link, just simply sharing that something was coming. I also added the AM.RADIO Instagram as a moderator so the page can post directly to the music club. I wanted to show the club that AM.RADIO had a presence in the music club (since a lot of people in the music club came from the hype around AM.RADIO) and this was me introducing that.
The next day (Wednesday), I posted the flyer to the AM.RADIO Instagram. I’m always pushing people to the music club and telling them that in order to get the invite first, they had to be in the music club (this is important for later). In every post I put up, I use some sort of “want to come to the next one? Join the music club in our profile to get the invite”. Hammering the fact that if you want to know when we launch the next AM.RADIO, you have to be in the club. You get it.
So 2 hours later I did just that… I posted the AM.R 003 link in the music club.
…and it went bananas
So I learned something here: The music club is super engaged, people were waiting for the next AM.RADIO, and the best part?
We didn’t even have an artist on the flyer.
The lineup for AM.RADIO is a “secret lineup” because the artists we have playing have a show in LA the same night, so Golden Voice (same promoter as Coachella) wouldn’t allow their name on the card. Classic “radius clause” issues. So at first I was nervous that we wouldn’t be able to capture the interest of the fans of the artist and have them convert to attendees of AM.R. But even without a single artist to pull a crowd- people still rushed to get their spot for today (Saturday).
No public posting either…
We also didn’t even blast out the link to the 4,000+ people who RSVP’s or joined the waitlist from last time. Which I was planning to do- but before I even could - the music club and their friends scooped up every last RSVP. It was madness.
So no viral video this time, no blast out to the massive data pool we have from the last TWO AM.RADIO’s, no artist on the card, and no public link. It was all from the music club of 3.5k people.
Things are getting crazy, and it goes to show the power of community. I started the music club to simply send playlists to a group of music fans every week. It has now blossomed into one of the most active and engaged music communities in LA. From organic content, no ads, consistent value, and a little bit of luck. We’re starting to turn some heads in town. Want to join the club? Click here to add yourself.
Didn’t get a chance to RSVP? Join the waitlist- We’ll be allowing people from the waitlist to come as well. See you this morning in Venice.
